Some quietly refer to her as “Charlotte the Harriet Tubman,” credited with facilitating the relocation of over 40 families from the United States to Panama. Her guidance and support have proven invaluable, both to those embarking on the journey and to the Panamanian community benefiting from the infusion of American wealth into their economy.
Many seek Panama as an escape from the pressures felt stateside, in pursuit of a better quality of life. Charlotte’s YouTube channel boasts over 40,000 subscribers, with a demographic spanning ages 30 to 65, including young individuals, singles, elders, and families with children—all drawn to Panama for its promise of a brighter future.
Check out her vibrant on-air radio personality at Blaxit Radio, where she fearlessly tackles pressing issues like the United States, Black Culture, life in Panama and the Black Expats experience.

Yvette Scott Thank you Charottle Van Horn, CEO, Blacks Expats in Panama 🇵🇦 (BEIP) and her team for an amazing, most rememberable #SIP2025 cruise. Your professionalism and customer service “Top Notch” highly informative, the planning of social events, excursions, holding zoom meetings leading up to the cruise, connecting the Queens and keeping us updated on any changes, the list goes on. Hands down to BEIP. I highly recommend BEIP for your travel plans you won’t be disappointed. Felicia This experience is far more than a trip—it’s a transformative journey that redefines what it means to connect, support, and uplift black women, Nubian queens. Thoughtfully designed and led by an exceptional female leader, it embodies a sophisticated celebration of empowerment, fostering deep and lasting relationships. From the moment it begins, this journey sets itself apart with: • Sophisticated, intentional networking that moves beyond surface-level interactions. • Deep, meaningful interpersonal connections built on trust and authenticity. • Elegant cultural immersion, weaving together experiences that inspire and enrich. • An authentic, supportive sisterhood, where women genuinely uplift one another. • Unforgettable moments that spark long-term collaboration and friendships. This journey extends far beyond the trip itself—it’s a catalyst for lifelong transformation. Participants pour into each other, uplift one another, and leave profoundly inspired.Relationships evolve into deep connections, and every woman walks away feeling seen, understood, and energized. More than just a trip, this is a refined, powerful experience—one that leaves an indelible mark, creating lasting memories and a network of support that continues to thrive long after the journey ends. Dana Moore We just returned from another BEIP experience, Sisters In Panama 2025. Traveling with 23+ women of color from all over the country, including Panama, was an amazing experience. From planned photo shoots, dinners, game day, and a tour focused on understanding the culture in Belize, everything was great. On the "Night of the Nubian Queen" we all dressed in tradition African attire; the colors our clothing and the brightness of our smiles reflected our pride in ourselves and each other; everyone that passed us stopped and stared at the magnificence of it all. The friendships forged over days and those rekindled from previous trips made it feel like a reunion of sorts. Charlotte brings out the best in everyone and creates memorable experiences. That's why we travel with her as often as possible, to the many destinations BEIP explores. Lisa Koger An exceptional organization. I attended two functions/trips and they exceeded my expectations! Phoebe Jones This year’s trip with BEIP was, as always, amazing. This was my fourth trip, and I’m already looking forward to the next one. Charlotte Higginbotham Van Horn is the ultimate host—thoughtful, communicative, and genuinely attentive to everyone’s experience. She goes above and beyond to ensure everyone arrives safely and feels welcomed, whether we’re in Panama or, as in this case, on a ship in the middle of the ocean. From the start, she sets the tone with thoughtful touches like welcome gifts on the first evening, making everyone feel like an honored guest. One of the most memorable moments of this trip was Belize Day, where we had the privilege of spending an afternoon singing, dancing, and dining on delicious local dishes with the Garifuna people. Another unforgettable highlight was the Night of the Nubian Queen dinner and photo shoot—both events created memories I’ll cherish forever. Most special of all is the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new, incredible people. This trip is the annual recharge I eagerly anticipate every year! Nurse goodie I took this tour in 2024 and it was so magnificent, I took a 2nd tour in 2025. If I could give 10 stars it would be well deserved, the cultural aspect was interesting, rich with information and unique. I met several people who I plan to keep in touch with. I would definitely recommend Black Expats in Panama to anyone looking for a reliable connection and community. It was also so affordable that it allowed me to participate and travel on a budget. The owner is very hands on, involved and personable. #fantastic #food for the soul Karma Ester Yet another Awesome trip with. The one and only Charlotte Higginbotham Van Horn! I look forward to SIP EVERY year. I can’t say enough about how great these trips are and if you ever get less than 5 stars “Gang Gang” somebody is hating. Love you Charlotte.
